Sens’ Anderson to start tonight. Hammond recalled.
It’s been an emotional stretch for the Ottawa Senators, and it continues to stir up a whirlwind of confusion in the crease. The Sens’ true number-one goaltender Craig Anderson will make the start tonight against the Buffalo Sabres, but will take another leave of absence shortly after to be with his wife Nicholle, who is battling throat cancer.
For now, the Hamburgler is back. Andrew Hammond has been re-called from the AHL to back up the new(ish)ly acquired Mike Condon whilst Anderson tends to his ailing partner.
In the midst of the goaltending conundrum, Hammond was sent down for a two game stint in Binghamton. Still a fan-favourite for his unbelievable Cinderella run in 2014-15, the 28-year-old will try to reestablish himself as a full-time NHL tender.
