21 Players Named to USA Junior Select Team

Team USA has announced the names of the 21 players that will represent Team USA at this year’s World Junior A Select Championships in Alberta, Canada. This year’s team will look to improve on the bronze medal finish that Team USA had in last year’s event. Team USA has won the most titles in this event of any other nation with 6 championships to it’s name.

Team 2016 is as follows….

FORWARDS

Collin Adams

Adams is an 18-year-old left winger who currently has 22 points in 19 games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. The 5-foot-9, 172-pound forward was drafted by the New York Islanders this past draft in the 6th round, 170th overall. He has committed to the University of North Dakota and expects to join them next fall.

Hank Crone

This 18-year-old left winger is also having a pretty solid season with 19 points in 17 games on the Fargo Force of the USHL. The 5-foot-8, 161-pound forward went undrafted in this past NHL entry draft. He has committed to Boston University of the NCAA and will join them this coming fall.

Paul Washe

Washe is about to turn 18 in less than a week, and joining team USA is quite the gift for him. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound centerman currently has 12 points in 16 games with the Tri-City Storm. Washe took home the USHL championship with the Storm last year. He has committed to Western Michigan University and will join them for the 2017-18 season. Washe will be eligible for the first time to be selected in the 2017 NHL entry draft.

Mick Messner

Messner will also be eligible for the first time at the 2017 NHL entry draft. This 17-year-old left winger is in the middle of his second season with the Madison Capitols for the USHL where he has 9 points in 16 games. The 6-foot, 194-pound winger has committed to the University of Wisconsin and will join them next season.

Blake Lizotte

This 5-foor-7, 141-pound centerman is having a great season with the Fargo Force. The Force’s captain currently has 21 points in 17 games. Lizotte has committed to St. Cloud State University of the NCAA and will join them next season.

Alex Limoges

The Tri-City Storm alternate captain has looked good for them in his two seasons. Following his championship run last season season, Limoges has recorded 18 points in 16 games so far this season. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound, 19-year-old forward has committed to Cornell University for next season.

Tarek Baker

At 19-years-old, Baker is another veteran for team USA. The 5-foot-9, 183-pound left winger has recorded 6 points in 16 games with the Bloomington Thunder so far this season. The Thunder’s captain has committed to the University of Wisconsin and is set to join them for the 2017-18 season.

Nick Swaney

The 19-year-old forward is point per game through 17 games for the Waterloo Black Hawks so far in his third season. The 5-foot-10, 161-pound forward is committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth for the 2017-18 season.

Brannon McManus

McManus is a 17-year-old center/right wing. He is sitting right now with 11 points in 17 games so far in his second season with the Omaha Lancers. The 5- foor-10, 179-pound forward is committed to the University of Minnesota for the 2017-18 season. He will be eligible for the upcoming 2017 NHL entry draft.

Ethan Frank

Frank currently has 8 points in his first 16 games of the 2016-17 USHL season. The 18-year-old forward is part-way through his second season with the Lincoln Stars. Western Michigan University has gained a commitment from the 5-foot-11, 183-pound forward and expects him in their lineup for the 2017-18 season.

Isaac Johnson

The Des Moines Buccaneers centerman is in his first season with his USHL club after a 4-game sample last year. In his 12 games this season, Johnson has recorded 11 points. The 6-foot-2, 172-pound forward will be eligible for the 2017 NHL entry draft.

Zach Solow

Another November birthday on team USA as Solow just turned 18 earlier this month. Solow currently has 17 points in 17 games with the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL. The 5-foot-9, 181-pound forward will be eligible for the 2017 NHL entry draft. He will be joining the school he committed to, Northeastern University, in 2017-18.

DEFENSEMEN

Matt Hellickson

This 18-year-old defenseman has 9 points in 13 games with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. The 6-foot, 176-pound blueliner has seen some international success winning the bronze medal for USA at the WJC-18. He has committed himself to the University of Notre Dame and is lined up to join them next season.

Mikey Anderson

Anderson is a 2017 NHL entry draft-eligible defenseman. He currently has 10 points in 17 games with the Waterloo Black Hawks this season. The 5-foot-11, 194-pound defender has committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He is expecting to join them for the 2018-19 season.

Wyatt Aamodt

Aamodt is the third of the November born players on team USA, just turning 19 today. The 5-foot-11, 207-pound defenseman has 11 points in 17 games with the Chicago Steel. He is committed to joining Minnesota State University (Mankato) for the 2017-18 season.

Jake Ryczek

Ryczek is one of the few drafted players on this USA team. The 18-year-old defenceman was drafted in the past NHL entry draft by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 7th round, 203rd overall. The 5-foot-10, 181-pound blueliner has 6 points in 15 games with the Waterloo Black Hawks so far this season. He has committed to Providence College and expects to join them next fall.

Alex Green

This 18-year-old defender is playing in his second season with the Lincoln Stars after he left the Muskegon Lumberjack part-way through last season. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound defenseman currently has 5 points in 17 games with the Stars this season. He is committed to Cornell University and will join them for the 2017-18 season.

Matt Kiersted

Kiersted will be joining fellow Chicago Steel defenseman Wyatt Aamodt on Team USA’s roster. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound defenseman currently has 9 points in 16 games for the Steel this season. He is committed to the University of North Dakota for the 2017-18 season.

Clayton Phillips

Phillips currently has 7 points in 17 games for the Fargo Force this season. The 5-foot-11, 174-pound defender is committed to the University of Minnesota of the NCAA for the 2018-19 season. He is eligible for the upcoming 2017 NHL entry draft.

GOALTENDERS

Cayden Primeau

Primeau is a name very commonly associated with USA hockey, so it is only fitting that Keith Primeau’s son Cayden continues that trend. Cayden Primeau currently has a 3.24 goals-against average and a 0.897 save percentage with the Lincoln Stars so far this season. The 2017 NHL entry draft-eligible goaltender is committed to joining Northeastern University for the 2017-18 season.

Dayton Rasmussen

Dayton Rasmussen may be the biggest highlight of this USA roster. The 6-foot-2, 201-pound goaltender has had a remarkable season so far posting a 2.33 goals-against average and a 0.917 save percentage for the Tri-City Storm so far this season in 13 games. The 2017 NHL entry draft-eligible goaltender won the USHL championship with the Storm last season. This 18-year-old goalie is committed to joining the University of Denver for the 2017-18 season.
