Puempel-senators

On Monday, the New York Rangers claimed forward Matt Puempel off waivers from the Ottawa Senators. The 23-year-old has skated in 13 games for the Senators this season but has been unable to find the score sheet. Puempel has played a total of 52 games in the NHL, registering 4 goal, 2 assist and 24 penalty minutes.

The former 1st round, 24th overall pick in the 2011 NHL entry draft has spent a majority of his time in the AHL with the Binghamton Senators the past 5 seasons. Puempel has scored 60 goals, 51 assist and 143 penalty minutes in 170 AHL games.

The Rangers needed to fill a hole in their lineup as centreman Mika Zibanejad is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks with a broken fibula (Click here for more on Zibanejad’s injury).
