The wait for the Dallas Stars’ top prospect is finally over.

Julius Honka was recalled by the Stars this morning after John Klingberg due to missing a team meeting, who has been scratched for tonight’s game versus the Minnesota Wild. This was not the way we expected Honka would be recalled, but it is no less impressive.

This season, the Finland-native has 3 goals, 9 assists, 12 points and 36 shots on goal in 14 games for Dallas’ affiliate team the Texas Stars. Honka is tied for 3rd amongst defenseman for points in the American Hockey League, putting him in good company with the likes of Brandon Montour and Jordan Subban, but Honka is likely the best of the bunch.

Honka has a big opportunity to shine tonight as he is expected to start the game on the first defense pairing alongside Dan Hamhuis versus the Minnesota Wild. If Honka can make the most of it, it may force GM Jim Nill’s hand to keep him up with the big club and waive one of two defensemen in Patrik Nemeth or Jamieson Oleksiak.
