WIld reassign Joel Ek-Eriksson to Sweden
Today GM Chuck Fletcher announced they would be sending rookie phenom Joel Ek Eriksson back to Sweden after his 9-game stint with the Wild this season. Despite this reassignment, there are a lot of positives to go around for hockey club.
Ek Eriksson stepped into the NHL just about as well as you could hope for a rookie. The Karlstad, Sweden native totalled 2 goals, 3 assists, 5 points over the course of nine games. This was highlighted by his NHL debut where he notched 1 goal and 3 shots on goal, but perhaps more notably his 3rd game where he compiled 3 assists and 3 shots on goal for a convincing win against the Boston Bruins on October 25th. After his 5th game, he would not record a point and this fact may have played in GM Chuck Fletcher decision to send him back to Farjestads BK Karlstad for the remainder of the 2016-2017 season.
The big-bodied centre (6’02”, 187 lbs.) has 75 games played for Farjestads BK Karlstad the past two seasons compiling 13 goals, 8 assists, 22 penalties in minutes and a plus-7 rating. Ek Eriksson, 20, while he is not known for his offense as much as a responsible game, we should see an increase in his production after an impressive display with the Wild and see Ek Eriksson get another crack at making the Wild full-time as early as next season.
The Wild selected Joel Ek Eriksson in the 2015 NHL Entry draft in the first round taken 20th overall.
