Shea Theodore

The Anaheim Ducks are blessed with some strong prospects despite having a fantastic roster as well. A few of these players have seen or are currently seeing NHL action. Shea Theodore is looking like a stud, and may very well have pushed a defenseman out of the Ducks lineup for the 2016-17 season as a Fowler or Vatanen trade has been circulating the rumour mill quite a bit lately. Brandon Montour and Jacob Larsson add to this as both are finishing up some strong seasons. Ondrej Kase is also an interesting one. Very small sample size as his season was shortened, but has had a good taste of the AHL with 8 points in 13 games. Andy Welinski is finishing up his 4th year in the NCAA. The 6-foot-2, 200 pound defenseman is a solid defensive D-man and will help compliment their already strong future defense. With Welinski among others joining the Seagulls next year, Anaheim’s AHL affiliate may see a strong roster for the 2016-17 season.

It’s a little weird saying Anaheim’s issue is goalies, but that is the case for their prospects with Gibson and Andersen both graduated. However with both being so young, I wouldn’t expect the Ducks to be in a desperate look for a new high-end prospect goaltender anytime soon. That being said, forwards are needing some refreshing. The blueline of the Ducks looks to be set for years to come, in fact they will need to make room once their young defensemen graduate.

The following are my ratings for their prospects. Ratings are based on their future potential. A+ is the highest rating and would go to those of the highest caliber. Any player who would not be eligible for the Calder Trophy in 2016-17 as of this moment is left off this list.
