The Colorado Avalanche have traded Stefan Elliott to the Arizona Coyotes for Brandon Gormley.

Stefan Elliott

Stefan Elliott was a 2nd round pick, 49th overall of Colorado in 2009. The 24 year old, 6 foot 0, 192 point defenseman recorded 19 goals, 40 points in 64 games in the AHL last year for Lake Erie, but could not record a point in 5 games with the Avalanche. This has been a common occurrence for the blueliner throughout his 4 year career so far.

Brandon Gormley

Brandon Gormley is heading into his 4th year in pro. The 23 year old blueliner was drafted 13th overall in 2010 by Arizona. The 6 foot 2, 196 pound young gun recorded 3 goals, 10 points in 23 games in the AHL with the Pirates, along with 2 goals, 4 points in 27 games for the Yotes.

This trade clearly a deal in hopes that a change in scenery may help the development of both young defensemen. Both in the early stages of their careers, we may see one or both of them become impact players in their future.
