The Calgary Flames added some depth to their blueline today as they signed Czech defenseman Jakub Nakladal to a one-year two-way entry-level contract.

Nakladal, 27, spent last season playing in SM-liiga for TPS Turku where he has 15 points in 50 games. He spent the 4 seasons before that playing in the KHL where he had 20 points in 117 games with three different teams. The 6’1″ Czech defender was most recently seen at the 2015 IIHF World Championships where he represented his home country and led all Czech defensemen with 5 points in 10 games. Although Jagr was the star of the tournament, Calgary GM Brad Treliving had his eye on Nakladal and was impressed enough by what he saw to offer him a contract. The reliable Nakladal likely won’t put up any significant numbers in the NHL but he does give Calgary another option if they were to lose key defensemen to injury again next year.
