Habs’ Nygren Signs with SHL’s Farjestad BK
Magnus Nygren – Montreal’s fourth round pick, 113th overall in 2011 – has decided to sign with Farjestad BK of the Swedish Hockey League.
Nygren’s run was unsuccessful in North America, having a rough start in his first year (2013-14), and suffering a concussion that brought his 2014-15 season to a halt. No one is overly shocked that he’s decided to cross the Atlantic once more.
However, Nygren did put up some impressive numbers in the 15 games he played for the Hamilton Bulldogs this year. As a right handed defenceman, he netted four goals and 10 points over his small stretch – stats worthy of another shot.
Nygren’s rights can be retained by the Habs this summer if they choose to give him a qualifying offer. And they may want to do that just in case this 25 year old turns into a stud overseas.
North American hockey may not be over for this Swedish star.
