Derek Meech has signed a two year contract with the Malmo Redhawks of the SHL.

Texas Stars defenseman Derek Meech will be heading overseas for the 2015-16 season. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has signed a two-year deal with the Malmo Redhawks of the SHL.

This comes despite a decent season in the AHL, recording 10 goals and 35 points in 63 games, leading his team in points by  defensemen.

He played in the KHL with Minsk Dynamo during the 2012-13 NHL lockout, so this will not be his first time on international ice.

At 31 years old, this could be the end of his career on North American ice if his season goes well.
