March 19th

1943- Gordie Howe scored his 49th goal of the season. This was highest in his career and unfortunately he did not reach the 50 goal plateau mark.

1972- New York Ranger’s Ed Giacomin became the first goaltender in NHL history by adding two assists in a 5-3 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

1982- Bob McCammon becomes the Philadelphia Flyer’s head coach. Replacing Pat Quinn and this was McCammon’s second stint with the orange, black and white.

1991- Brett Hull scores his 80th goal of the season. Becoming the third player in NHL history to do so as he finished with 86 on the season. Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemeiux are the only other players to reach that mark.

1992- Kevin Stevens records his 111th point on the season, the most by any U.S. born player. The record was previously held by Joe Mullen.

2002- Dallas Stars trade Joe Nieuwendyk and Jamie Lagenbrunner to the New Jersey Devils for Jason Arnott, Randy McKay and the Devils first round pick of 2002 (Daniel Paille)
