The Minnesota Wild have signed UFA defenseman Justin Falk to a one-year, two-way contract.

Justin Falk was drafted by the Wild in 2007 (4th Round, 110th Overall) and played his first four NHL seasons with the club before being traded to the New York Rangers last offseason. The 6-foot-5, 215 pound blueliner recorded just 2 assists in 21 appearances for the Rangers last season. Falk did not factor into the Rangers cup run last playoffs, as he did not play a single game in the postseason.

It’s no secret that the Minnesota Wild defense is the weaker area on their roster. Falk is a solid depth defenseman for any team but has gotten more minutes than he should. Nonetheless, Minnesota has really strengthened their roster as a whole this offseason and they will be looking at their depth defensemen like Falk to step it up as they attempt to have a solid season and prove that they can contend for the Stanley Cup.
