With the 2014 IIHF World Championships starting Friday in Belarus, League It To Us will keep you up-to-date with all the action during this year’s tournament.

The Americans will be looking to rebound after a disappointing Sochi Olympics this year, after the team failed to pick up a medal. The biggest weakness for the Americans appears to be their goaltending heading into the tournament, with only Tim Thomas having NHL experience. Thomas was the back-up goaltender for the Dallas Stars this season behind Kari Lehtonen, and Thomas struggled with the role posting a 2.97 GAA and a 2-4-1 record in 8 games this season. It will be interesting how the Americans do this tournament as they open the World Championships against the host country Belarus.

This year the Americans were put in group B along with Belarus, Finland, Germany, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Switzerland, Russia. Only the top 4 teams in both groups will advance into the quarter-finals, playing cross-over knockout style hockey. The USA’s schedule is below:

Friday May 9th vs Belarus – 1:45 pm (EST)

Saturday May 10th vs Switzerland – 1:45 pm (EST)

Monday May 12th vs Russia – 1:45 pm (EST)

Thursday May 15th vs Latvia – 9:45 am (EST)

Friday May 16th vs Kazakhstan – 1:45 pm (EST)

Sunday May 18th vs Finland – 9:45 am (EST)

Tuesday May 20th vs Germany – 5:45 am (EST)
