San Antonio Signs Barnes to Tryout
Tyler Barnes has signed a tryout contract with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL.
Tyler, 24 has spent his last 4 years playing for the University of Wisconsin in the NCAA. Though he was passed over on his draft year in 2008, keep an eye on Barnes as he tries out in the AHL. Barnes plays an impressive all-around game on the ice, and was named to the WCHA All-academic team for 3 straight years. He and the Badgers also and came home as winners of the WCHA championship in the 2012/13 season. However it isn’t his play that makes Tyler Barnes so valuable. Barnes is one of the rare players in hockey to have a positive attitude no matter what happens. He has an attitude for winning, but always keeps the locker room in a positive mood. That can make more of a difference than one would think. On the ice, Tyler also has great hands and can be creative when he needs to be. He has a great hockey sense and plays a bigger game than he has for size. In saying that, he is not small either at 6 foot, 190 pounds.
Tyler Barnes will likely impress in the tryout and could stay for the upcoming 2014/15 season. Watch out for him as he starts to prove himself, his track is a long one but the track is indeed there. He will need to work on his consistency and will need to try to gain more size however if he wants to make the jump to the NHL level.
Tyler Barnes will be joining a team that has been struggling this year and will not be making the playoffs. After the call ups of Trocheck, Howden, and now Butler to the Florida Panthers, Barnes will have plenty of opportunity for ice time to prove himself in San Antonio as the season whines down to a close.
