5 points of the Week

1. Crosby Frustrated

Sidney Crosby is growing frustrated with the lack of progress in CBA talks. “I really want to be optimistic,” Crosby said after Monday’s workout in Pittsburgh. “It’s not easy right now. It’s a roller coaster. One day you think there are great talks, then the next day they meet for five minutes and it’s done.” Crosby does not believe the league is making nearly enough concessions in negotiations.

2. Vokoun’s Mind changed

Tomas Vokoun is back skating in South Florida after reportedly signing with Czech League team HC Karlovy Vary earlier this month. He told reporters on Monday that he has changed his mind about playing overseas.

3. Fleury joins Pens for workouts

Marc-Andre Fleury hit the ice at Southpointe on Tuesday for his first appearance at the Penguins’ informal workouts. He has spent the past few weeks playing in charity games throughout Quebec to stay relatively fresh, but he admits that they aren’t the best method to prepare, especially, if you’re a goaltender.

4. Cooke back from injury

Matt Cooke returned to the ice Monday at Southpointe after he was clipped by Sidney Crosby’s stick last Friday. He had a large Band-Aid on his forehead and jokingly refuted claims that Crosby helped patch up the wound. “I should correct previous reports in the paper that he had anything to do with aiding or fixing the cut,” Cooke said, smiling. “Because he did absolutely nothing except for laugh.”

5. Short training camp could hurt moved players

Penguins coach Dan Bylsma is worried about that there will be little to no exhibition games if we end up with a shortened NHL season. Without a full training camp, newer players might not be able to get familiar with Bylsma and vice versa before the season starts. That probably won’t be unique to the Penguins, but it might hurt players that will be starting the season with a brand new team.
