Subway Super Series Game 2 Recap

Game 2 took place in the Subway Super Series in Val d’Or, Quebec. This game finished totally different then game 1 of the series that took place on Monday November 5th (Click Here for game 1 recap) as Russia went on to beat the QMJHL 6-2. In game 2 the QMJHL all-star team went on and beat Russia 5-2. The QMJHL team went up early in game 2 by scoring just under a minute into the game from a goal by Florida Panthers prospect Francis Beauvillier and helpers from James Melindy and Christopher Clapperton. Russia tied the game backup on a short handed goal by Andrei Sigarev with Nail Yakupov getting the assist. The first period was evenly played as shots were tied at 8 a piece. The line of Florida Panthers prospect Jonathan Huberdeau, Nathan MacKinnon, and Jonathan Drouin were on fire as they put team QMJHL up 2-1 with a goal just under the 4-minute mark in the 2nd period. Huberdeau and his line-mates were able to capitalize again but this time on a power play, which made it a 3-1 lead for the QMJHL side. The Russian team got out-played by the QMJHL team getting out shot 13 to 6.

Russia played a lot better in the 3rd period, but the QMJHL team put another into the back of the net on the power-play, by a goal from Nathan MacKinnon and helpers from Xavier Ouellet and Jonathan Drouin. Russia then closed the lead down to 2 goals from a goal from Vladimir Tkachev and Kirill Dyakov picked up the helper. Russia was not able to solve the hot line of Drouin, MacKinnon, And Huberdeau as Drouin popped in his first goal of the game. Quebec out-shot the Russian team 32-25 in a convincing 5-2 win.
